Flavio Moraes
Flavio joined FGV EBAPE in 2024 as an Assistant Professor of Finance. He is an applied economist who primarily studies topics related to corporate finance, banking, and law and economics, with a particular focus on the impacts on firms and workers and the role of financial markets and institutions. Recently, he published the paper “The Labor Effects of Judicial Bias in Bankruptcy” in the Journal of Financial Economics, which examines the effects of judicial bias favoring firm continuation on the workers of bankrupt firms.
Before joining FGV EBAPE, Flavio served as an Assistant Professor of Finance at COPPEAD UFRJ. He previously held a position as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at FGV EPGE and as a lecturer at FGV EESP. In addition to his academic experience, Flavio has worked as a coordinator for research and development in credit risk modeling at Banco Itaú Unibanco and as an economist at the Secretary of Economic Development of the City Hall of Rio de Janeiro. Flavio earned his PhD in Economics from FGV EPGE and was a Visiting Scholar in the Finance Department at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. He holds an MSc in Economics from FGV EPGE and a BA in Economics from PUC-Rio.
