The study on the influence of the leadership of municipal school principals on school performance by researcher Filipe Sobral is published in the Public Administration Review

The article, Joint Effects of Shared and Transformational Leadership on Performance in Street-Level Bureaucracies: Evidence from the Educational Sector, written by FGV EBAPE professor and researcher Filipe Sobral in co-authorship with FGV EBAPE’s alumni Urszula Lagowska and Gustavo Tavares, was published in May 2022, in the Public Administration Review, one of the best-evaluated journals in its field.

Based on research carried out between 2018 and 2019 in 74 public schools with 423 principals and teachers, the study sought to understand how the leadership of principals and teachers of municipal public schools influences the students’ performance.

According to professor Sobral, “the results suggest that leadership sharing practices among teachers can promote better school performance, especially when the principal has a transformational leadership style.”
