FGV EBAPE Undergraduate Alumnus Receives Highest Academic Honor from Boston University

Luiz Gustavo Capra, a graduate of the Business Administration program at FGV EBAPE, has been selected to receive the Award for Excellence in Graduate Study from Boston University — the highest distinction awarded to a master’s student at the institution. The award is presented annually to just one student per academic program and, this year, it will be granted to a Brazilian for the first time. The award ceremony will take place later this May in Boston, United States.

Originally from Vilhena, a town in the interior of Rondônia, Luiz began his academic journey when he left his hometown to study at FGV EBAPE in Rio de Janeiro.
"It all started here — my journey with FGV EBAPE. When I left Vilhena to study at EBAPE, I didn’t have all the answers, but I had a strong desire to learn and the confidence that knowledge would take me far.”

During his undergraduate studies, he interned at one of the world’s leading corporate real estate firms. This experience coincided with his financial mathematics classes, allowing him to immediately apply what he was learning.
"We evaluated high-end commercial properties in Rio de Janeiro using discounted cash flow models, and that’s when I clearly understood how the mathematical and statistical foundation provided by FGV makes all the difference in the job market.”

After graduating, Luiz returned to Rondônia to manage his family’s company, which specializes in the collection and treatment of industrial and medical waste. During this time, he deepened his interest in data analysis and began applying the knowledge acquired during his undergraduate studies to optimize processes and improve outcomes.

His passion for the field led him to create his own Business Intelligence consultancy, Capra IN, through which he developed projects using tools such as Power BI, Power Automate, and Power Apps. One of the highlights was the development of a full ERP system for the bus terminal in his hometown — blending technology, social impact, and regional roots.

"Today, I am completing my master’s in Applied Business Analytics at Boston University — one of the world’s top universities — and I can confidently say: the education I received at FGV is at the same level. EBAPE gave me the tools, critical thinking, and confidence to compete anywhere in the world.”
