Debates on the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, possible solutions to issues such as poverty, inequality, among others, were part of the meeting promoted through a partnership between FGV EBAPE and the SEB Group – Brazilian Educational System, represented by Colégio Carolina Patricio. The event brought together, at FGV EBAPE's Barra da Tijuca unit, 250 high school students, from schools in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, for SEBMUN - United Nations Committee Simulation - UN.

The meeting was attended by the Head of the BsC Program in Administration, professor Bernardo Fajardo, the principal of Colégio Carolina Patrício, Hélia Sanches, other representatives of the School and the BSc in Administration Program students.

Present at the event as a guest speaker, FGV EBAPE professor Fabrício Stocker brought to the students key points about sustainable development, the 2030 agenda and the role of the SDGs, as well as a more realistic view of socioeconomic problems faced by different countries in the world.

After the lecture, students formed delegations of up to 20 members. Each committee was responsible for representing several countries around the world and bringing to the debate table some of the main problems highlighted by the SDGs, as well as seeking viable solutions to such issues.

The initiative, according to Hélia Sanches, allows students to be protagonists of their own lives, being aware of the problems that plague society and their importance as an agent of transformation, engaging new generations and creating ways to lead the world guided by a culture of peace.

For professor Fabrício Stocker, it is important for young people to understand their own role in the community in which they are inserted and to be concerned, at school, when choosing the profession they intend to pursue in the future, not only to envisage the one that can pay them better, but think about the opportunity that will be most aligned with their life purpose and that could impact more lives, society in general and/or the environment. “That’s what we’ve been looking for, to work a little more with the young public to raise greater awareness, especially regarding this issue about sustainability.”

In the manager's view, the partnership with FGV EBAPE in actions like this, bringing the academia closer to the school, reduces a possible gap in the transition of young people from high school to university, as it brings new perspectives and practices so that the student understands the reality of university life, creating expectations and greater engagement.

Hélia Sanches highlights that the SEB group is already studying the possibility of new projects in partnership with FGV EBAPE so that it will soon be possible to spread the initiative to other high schools in Rio de Janeiro.
