Professor Rafael Goldszmidt, from the Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (FGV EBAPE), is listed among the 107 Brazilian scientists who most influence public policy decisions around the world, according to a report released by Agência Bori and the international platform Overton. The study analyzed the impact of academic research on strategic documents, technical reports, and policy briefs used by governments, international organizations, and civil society institutions.
Professor Goldszmidt ranks 11th on the list, standing out alongside globally recognized scholars such as César Victora (UFPel), Carlos Monteiro (USP), Paulo Saldiva (USP), Pedro Hallal (UFPel), and Claudio Ferraz (University of British Columbia and PUC-Rio). His ranking reinforces FGV’s position as one of Brazil’s leading institutions in producing scientific knowledge with a direct impact on global public policies.
In addition to Goldszmidt, the report also includes other researchers affiliated with Fundação Getulio Vargas, such as Sergio Firpo (FGV and Insper), who ranks 22nd. Collectively, the 107 Brazilian scientists mentioned in the report have had their research cited in more than 33,500 public policy documents published since 2019, highlighting the growing relevance of Brazilian science in shaping policy decisions worldwide.
The study recognizes the leadership of researchers who, through scientific production, contribute to solutions in areas such as health, environment, economics, governance, and social development. The presence of FGV faculty members in this distinguished group reaffirms the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and to producing knowledge that drives public policy transformation in Brazil and around the world.
