AMJ

On March 7, 2025, the Master’s and PhD in Administration Program (MSc&PhD) at the Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration of Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV EBAPE) held a Paper Development Workshop (PDW) in partnership with the renowned Academy of Management Journal (AMJ). The event, which received financial support from CAPES (PROEX), aimed to support researchers in improving their studies for publication in high-quality academic journals and brought together prominent AMJ editors and FGV EBAPE faculty members.

The PDW was led by AMJ Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Marc Gruber, and included participation from Deputy Editor, Prof. Georg von Krogh, and Associate Editors, Prof. Laura Little and Prof. Ned Wellman. Representing FGV EBAPE were the MSc&PhD coordinator, Prof. Ricardo Lopes Cardoso, the School’s Vice Dean, Prof. Alketa Peci, the leader of the Strategy, Management, and Organizations track, Prof. Olivier Bertrand—recipient of the AMJ Best Reviewer Award in 2024—and Prof. Carmen Migueles.

The audience was primarily composed of current students and alumni from the MSc&PhD program, as well as exchange students and researchers from other regional administration programs.

During the first session of the event, held in a plenary format, the AMJ editors presented the journal’s editorial policies, governance structure, and key characteristics that distinguish accepted and rejected articles. They discussed the requirements regarding theoretical contribution, methodological rigor, and innovation in submitted research. At the end of the session, the editors answered numerous questions from the audience, clarifying doubts about the publication process.

In the second session, authors who had submitted extended abstracts of their research had the opportunity to meet individually with the editors. These meetings offered detailed feedback and suggestions on how to improve their studies to increase the chances of publication in AMJ or other high-impact academic journals.

Key highlights of the event included discussions on AMJ’s expectations regarding theoretical contribution, the importance of methodological rigor, and research innovation. The workshop also underscored the critical role of academic research in addressing contemporary management challenges, such as inclusion, diversity, and technological innovation.

Through initiatives like this, FGV EBAPE reaffirms its commitment to academic excellence and the development of researchers capable of making significant contributions to the advancement of knowledge in the field of administration.
